Seton Hall rolls over Iona in home opener

The Pirates looked great in a 86-64 win over Iona

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates and Gaels got off to a slow start in the first half and the Gaels would hold a lead going into half, but the Pirates ended the half on a 7-0 run and looked like they were really shaping into form.

Coming out of the half the Pirates came out firing at all cylinders. Only minutes into the second half the Pirates retook the lead for the first time since the beginning of the first half. From there the Pirates never let up and dominated throughout the rest of the game.

Jared Rhoden really took the reigns for the Pirates and helped them to the win scoring a career high 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Three other Pirates finished in double figures: Sandro Mamukelashvili (18 pts, 7 reb), Myles Cale (15 pts, 5 reb) and Tyrese Samuel (12 pts, 0 reb).

It is looking like the Pirates are really beginning to shape into form as they have a tough schedule this week. On December 2nd, they will travel to play the University of Rhode Island in Rhode Island and then will travel to Omaha, Nebraska on December 4th to play #21 Oregon.

Wins this week would really boost their resume and may possibly even push them into the top 25 before Big East play begins on December 11th.
