After opening the season 2-0 last week, the St. John’s Red Storm hit the road for Bubbleville at Mohegan Sun, where they’ll square off with former Big East foe, Boston College.
The Eagles come into the game 1-1, having taken a 76-67 loss to Villanova to open the year, but bouncing back with a 69-64 victory over Rhode Island. Interestingly, they lost to Villanova with leading returning scorer Jay Heath, but Heath suffered a foot injury at some point during the ‘Nova game and was absent for the win over Rhode Island. He is questionable for Monday’s game, as is St. John’s Julian Champagnie, who has an ankle injury.
The Red Storm will also be without Rasheem Dunn, who is in concussion protocol. Vince Cole will be ready to go for St. John’s, though, and will look to be the leading scorer in a third straight game. The junior college transfer has been a force for St. John’s so far, scoring 22 points in the season-opening win over St. Peter’s, and 19 in the win against La Salle. We don’t know much about the Red Storm yet, given the quality of their two previous opponents, but the game against Boston College should be a good litmus test.
