The Georgetown Hoyas opened the 2020-21 season with a victory on Wednesday, pulling out a 70-62 win over the UMBC Retrievers at McDonough Arena.
Both teams looked very sluggish throughout the game, something we will likely see quite a bit in these early college basketball games.
Jahvon Blair picked up where he left off down the stretch last season, leading all scorers with 23 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Qudus Wahab appears ready to become the next big-time Georgetown big man. The sophomore center notched a double-double to open the season, finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Siena transfer Donald Carey also looked good with 13 points in the victory.
Georgetown turned the ball over 20 times, which UMBC turned into 24 points. That’s something the Hoyas will want to fix immediately, because if they keep that up against better competition, they are going to have a bad time.
B. Artis White led UMBC with 17 points.
Georgetown will host Navy next Tuesday.
