Xavier hosts St. John’s in Big East home opener

The Xavier Musketeers (11-3, 0-1) welcome the St. John’s Red Storm (11-3, 0-1) to Cintas Center Sunday afternoon for the Big East’s lone game of the day.

Both teams opened Big East play with losses, as Xavier fell as Villanova and St. John’s fell against Butler. There’s no shame in these losses, as conference play is a bear and Butler and Villanova are perhaps the conference’s two best teams.

St. John’s will be aided by the return of Mustapha Heron, as the Red Storm’s leading scorer returns after missing three games with a sprained ankle.

Xavier’s defense has done a nice job slowing things down and turning games into rock fights this season, which is something that MIke Anderson really doesn’t care to do, so it should be fascinating to see which team controls the tempo and pace.
