Wofford is the real deal. Despite playing in a weaker conference than Seton Hall, they went undefeated in conference play. The only teams they’ve lost to all season are North Carolina, Oklahoma, Kansas and Mississippi. Seton Hall is a bigger underdog than you think, lets break it down
Wofford By the Numbers
Offensive Efficiency: 118.5 (11th in the Nation)
Effective FG%: 57.8 (4th in the Nation)
3-point%: 41.6 (2nd in the Nation)
Defensive Efficiency: 97.7 (63rd in the Nation)
Offensive Rebound%: 24.6% (28th in the Nation)
3-point% allowed: 32.7 (75th in the Nation)
Style of Play
Remember how when Baker Dunleavy changed Villanova’s offense to focus on shooting a ton of threes? This would be his masterpiece. Every athlete can shoot the lights out. Storm Murphy is shooting 50.6% from long range, Nathan Hoover close behind at 46%, and Fletcher Magee at 41.3%. Not only are they consistently draining threes, they are fantastic off the ball and pass extremely well. Do not ever take your eye off your man, because it will be an uncontested 3 taken. There is always a brush screen somewhere to get a shooter open. Wofford can push the pace if they please, however they prefer to slow it down, holding the ball for an average of 18.5 seconds.
Their two key players are Cameron Jackson and Fletcher Magee. Magee, if he makes three more three pointers, will lead all of Division 1 in threes made. He’s a phenomenal shooter and Player of the Year in his conference. Jackson is one of the best mid-major forwards and shoots 58%. It’s a pick your poison type offense for Seton Hall.
How Can Seton Hall Win
- Defend the Arc: Wofford is made up of amazing shooters. While Quincy McKnight is a solid defender, Seton Hall has to have Myles Cale, Myles Powell and Anthony Nelson step up on defense.
- Make 3-pointers: This seems really simple, but Seton Hall has to be able to match the firepower of Wofford’s offense.
- Clean the Glass: Romaro Gill, Taurean Thompson and Sandro Mamukelashvili are all taller than most of the Wofford roster, except for Matthew Pegram. Take advantage down low and clean the glass on both ends of the floor.
