Marquette vs. St. John’s 2019: Time, TV channel, watch online

Markus Howard and Marquette seek revenge over Shamorie Ponds and St. John’s

NCAA Basketball: Marquette at St. John Nicole Sweet-USA TODAY Sports

Shamorie Ponds and the St. John’s Red Storm wrestled the spotlight away from Markus Howard and the Marquette Golden Eagles back on the first day of the year 2019. Not only that, but they also wrestled a victory away too, defeating the Golden Eagles 89-69 at Carnesecca Arena in Queens. Now, on Tuesday night, Howard and the rest of MU will be hoping to obtain a measure of retribution and revenge, as they’ll host Slick and the Johnnies at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.

Both teams have been on different paths since that night in Queens. The Golden Eagles haven’t lost since, having piled up an eight-game win streak. They’ve hung neck and neck with the Villanova Wildcats, whom they’ll be playing this weekend in Milwaukee, of course. Howard as well as Sam Hauser, have been on tears to the surprise of nobody. And MU is only helping their cause for a high seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Red Storm took losses in five of their eight games. Three of those losses were by single digits, but their last two have been by 11+ points. That includes the 30-point beatdown they were issued by Zion Williamson and the Duke Blue Devils last Saturday, of course. Ponds has been doing the damn thing, but Tre Jones locked him up this past weekend, holding him to a mark of 3-of-11 from the field. At 16-6 on the season, the Johnnies need to start making an impact in the wins department, and aim to net more quality wins. Tuesday night will provide an opportune moment to do so.

This will be a matchup between the best 3-point shooting team in Big East play versus the second-best 3-point defense in Big East play so far. The Golden Eagles have shot 41.8 percent from beyond the arc in conference play, while the Johnnies have allowed just 34 percent of 3-point attempts to be converted against them. This will likely be the most fascinating matchup of the night and it wouldn’t surprise anybody if it’s how the game was decided.
