St. John’s hosts Saint Peter’s Tuesday night in Queens

The St. John’s Red Storm (6-2) return to action Tuesday evening as they play host to the Saint Peter’s Peacocks (1-3).

Saint Peter’s comes into this game as one of the worst offensive teams in the nation, checking in at #346 of 353 teams in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency on KenPom. Their mark of 86.6 is significantly below the national average of 99.4.

The Peacocks have a special connection to the Big East, though, by way of their head coach Shaheen Holloway. Holloway was a four-year player at Seton Hall in the late 90s, and an assistant on Kevin Willard’s staff for the first eight years of this decade before getting the Saint Peter’s job last season. It’s been a work in progress for Holloway, but still cool to see a former Big East player and assistant in a head coaching role.

As noted, the Peacocks struggle offensively. One player to key in on for St. John’s is freshman Doug Edert, who has made eight threes in his last two games.

In Saint Peter’s only other high-major game this year, they lost 68-47 to Providence and turned the ball over 24 times. It will likely be more of the same against St. John’s Tuesday night.

For the Red Storm, this game should be similar to their game against Wagner last weekend, a nice easy victory where many players can get involved on offense and they can continue to round into form as the nonconference schedule bulks up.
