For the eighth time in as many tries, DePaul won.
The most recent victory for the Blue Demons came Friday afternoon against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, where DePaul was able to pull off a 73-68 “upset”.
It was an upset in point spread alone (DePaul were four-point underdogs), but the Blue Demons were very much the better team throughout the afternoon.
Charlie Moore’s excellence continued on offense, as he led DePaul with 21 points and 12 assists, his second straight 10+ assist game. Paul Reed had just 11 points, but flirted with a triple-double as he added on nine rebounds and eight blocks. The eight blocks were a career-high and second-highest ever in DePaul single-game history.
The Blue Demons dominated for most of the game, save for a few Minnesota runs, one of which was near the end of the game. After a crazy sequence, the Gophers ended up with the ball down by just three points with ten seconds to play. Reed was able to get a hand on Gabe Kalscheur’s three point attempt for his eighth block as Darious Hall grabbed the deflection and made a pair of free throws to seal the 73-68 victory.
DePaul has now won eight games in a row for the first time since a nine game streak in the 1993-94 season.
