GAME PREVIEW

Friday night, the Butler Bulldogs will host the Morehead State Eagles at Hinkle Fieldhouse in both teams’ second Hall of Fame Classic matchup. In the first set of games, Butler triumphed over the Wofford Terriers, while Morehead State was defeated by the Missouri Tigers. It will be Butler’s fifth consecutive home game to start the season.

The Eagles were 4-0 before facing off against Missouri and they gave the Tigers a good battle, keeping it close up until halftime. The Ohio Valley Conference, from which Morehead State hails, is a famously tough mid-major conference that produced two NCAA tournament teams last year and had two more that were good enough to be there. Behind these four teams finished the Eagles last year, in fifth place.

All of this is to say that the Bulldogs better not get caught sleeping in this one. Preston Spradlin’s team is no pushover, and is led by Jordan Walker who was a standout last year, averaging 15.8 PPG and shooting just under 40% from deep. Walker is off to a bit of a slow start this year, but the Indianapolis native can get hot at any time, and where better to do so than in his hometown?

While the potential for upset is there, this match-up does seem to favor Butler pretty heavily. The Bulldogs’ defense has wreaked havoc on star guards in their two previous match-ups and if they can neutralize Walker like they did Marcus Carr and Nathan Hoover, the Eagles likely won’t have the firepower to keep up with the likes of Kamar Baldwin, who averaged 25.0 PPG in the two games he has played full minutes this year.
