The Providence Friars (3-1) look to continue their winning ways Tuesday night at home as they play host to the Merrimack Warriors (3-2).
The Friars bounced back from last week’s loss to Northwestern with a strong showing over the weekend against St. Peter’s, ending in a 68-47 Friar victory. Providence got out to a big lead and never looked back, though they were outscored 28-26 in the second half.
David Duke continued his strong start to the season with 17 points and six assists, while Alpha Diallo added 15 points and nine rebounds.
As far as Tuesday’s game against Merrimack is concerned, Providence shouldn’t have much of an issue picking up the win. While the Warriors picked up a win over Northwestern, who Providence lost to last week, they’ve been less than impressive in the rest of their games, as they’ve struggled to get going offensively, averaging just 53 points per game in their past three games. This game will also be Merrimack’s fourth in five days, which is bizarre scheduling.
The Warriors’ leading scorer is Juvaris Hayes. He’s also their leading rebounder and assister. If Providence slows him down, they’ll win the game comfortably. If they don’t, they’ll likely still win the game comfortably.
