In what’s becoming a more and more commonplace event, the DePaul Blue Demons won a basketball game Saturday afternoon, picking up a 75-54 victory over the Cornell Big Red at Wintrust Arena.

The win moves DePaul to a NCAA-best 5-0 for the first time since 1986-87, when the Blue Demons opened the year 16-0.

Where Charlie Moore has done most of the heavy lifting for DePaul on offense this year, Saturday was Paul Reed’s turn, as the junior forward led the Blue Demons with 18 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.

Defensively, the Blue Demons were excellent, holding Cornell to 36% shooting and forcing 14 turnovers which DePaul turned into 16 points.

Over the first ten minutes or so of the game, it was a back and forth affair with the teams trading the lead at the midway point, but DePaul clamped down afterwards and never looked back.

Terrance McBride led Cornell with 13 points.

The Blue Demons are off until next Saturday, when they’ll take on Boston College in Chestnut Hill.
