Gearing up for the Gavitt Games, the No. 10 Villanova Wildcats are in Columbus for the first time tonight to face No. 16 Ohio State. Though meetings between the teams have been sparse, the Buckeyes currently lead the all-time series 2-1.
In this near evenly-met contest, the Wildcats are sure to rely on their explosive young talent. In ‘Nova’s first game of the season against Army, freshman starter Jeremiah Robinson-Earl splashed a surprising 24 points and 13 rebounds in his debut for Villanova. Joining Robinson-Earl in high-impact offense, sophomore Saddiq Bey was quick to light up the scoreboard, finishing with 22 points and an impressive commitment to three-pointers.
The Buckeyes themselves have some strong catalysts beyond the arc. Freshman guard DJ Carton has been a significant force in Ohio State’s two wins of the season so far against Cincinnati and UMass Lowell. More than half of Carton’s shots attempted have been from three, with a 66.7% success rate. Junior Kyle Young leads the offensive effort for Ohio State, topping the Buckeyes’ scoring with an average of 12 points.
