At the current stream of things, it probably would’ve been surprising if Spellman didn’t declare and dip his feet into the pool. He’s an exceptionally talented player, a five-star recruit coming out of high school out in North Royalton, Ohio. He proved this year that he can play as a Stretch 4, having showcased an ability to shoot well from both inside and out. He had a fantastic NCAA Tournament run, in which he averaged 11.5 points and 8.8 rebounds, while shooting 48.1 percent from the field.
There is no telling of course how the process will go. But Spellman’s ability and skill set definitely translates to how the NBA is evolving, and what the NBA is looking for in a big man. Will that mean we’ve seen the last of Omari Spellman in a Villanova uniform? Time will tell, but for now, we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled.
