The Georgetown Hoyas will seek to end their two-game losing streak on Saturday when they face the Xavier Musketeers in Cincinnati. The Musketeers, 8-2 in Big East play, stand as one of the top teams in the conference and the nation as well. So this will be the Hoyas’ stiffest test since their matchup with the Villanova Wildcats. And, uh, well, we saw how that worked out.

The Hoyas have sputtered a bit after their 2-3 start in Big East play. Not only are they mired in a two-game losing streak, but they’ve lost four of their last five, including games versus the Creighton Bluejays, DePaul Blue Demons and Seton Hall Pirates. The Musketeers have faced no such problems. A two-game losing streak not withstanding, the Musketeers have mostly rumbled through conference play. They are basking in the glow of a five-game winning streak that includes a sweep of the lowly St. John’s Red Storm and wins over Creighton, Seton Hall and the Marquette Golden Eagles.

What’s more is that Xavier has been dominant at home in Big East play. They have won their games by an average margin of 11.8 points, including a 22-point throwdown of the Bluejays back on January 13. That should put some fear in the eyes of the Hoyas, as Cintas Center is one of the rowdiest environments out there.

Time will tell to see what happens in this Big East affair, but don’t be surprised if Xavier rolls.
