The St. John’s Red Storm return to Queens Wednesday evening looking to improve to 7-0 as they host the Mount Saint Mary’s Mountaineers.
You may remember Mount Saint Mary’s from the NCAA Tournament a couple years ago when they were a fun 16 seed that ultimately bowed out to Villanova after winning the play-in game against New Orleans.
That was then. They’re quite bad now. Head coach Jamion Christian left for Siena, and 5’5 guard Junior Robinson, one of the nation’s most exciting players, graduated. That leaves a new coach and a bunch of freshmen and sophomores. It should be no shock that the Mountaineers are 0-7 this season.
St. John’s is 6-0 after their big win over Georgia Tech from over the weekend, and barring a major slip-up, should be undefeated going into Big East play. An unexperienced opponent that plays poor defense could mean a big night for Shamorie Ponds, Mustapha Heron, LJ Figueroa, or anyone else on the Red Storm’s roster.
