Series History
Creighton leads the overall series against UMKC 9-3. The last meeting ended with an 89-82 win for the Jays on November 11th, 2016. Creighton hasn’t lost to UMKC since December 28th, 1995, where the Kangaroos managed to take the Jays into overtime in Kansas City, ultimately winning 72-70.

UMKC lost their first seven tilts against D-1 competition to start the year. They let Mike Daum dump in 26 points on 9-12 shooting. The ‘Roos managed to notch two wins against IPFW and South Dakota, both on the road. They finished their final four games of their non-conference - previous to tonight’s tilt - going 2-2 with wins against McNeese State and Elon, and losses against Milwaukee and Central Michigan.
The Kangaroos have a polarizing cat playing point, a 5’8 150lb junior by the name of Xavier Bishop. Jays fans might remember him from the inaugural game of the 2016-17 season. Bishop logged 13 minutes against the Jays and scored 9 points in those minutes.
Jordan Giles, a 6’7 225lb power forward, also got some run in that game in Omaha two years ago, but failed to score a single point in his ten minutes of action. Aleer Leek scored 7 points in 9 minutes against the Jays but he’ll be a relative non-factor in tonight’s game as most of his minutes have come off the bench this season.
UMKC is bad defensively. They rank 240th in defensive efficiency. They allowed Morehead State to score 99 points in a regulation basketball game.
Morehead State ranks 217th in terms of offensive efficiency.
The ‘Roos rank 302nd in the nation in defending the 3pt shot. Their offense is predicated upon chucking up threes as well.
The only way that UMKC can statistically beat Creighton is if Creighton replicates the effort we saw in Norman. Otherwise, the Jays are going to shoot the ‘Roos out of the building.
Coach McDermott has a 5-3 in the game following Christmas during his stay at Creighton.
