DePaul falls to Boston College to end nonconference play

That’s certainly not what you want to happen.

NCAA Basketball: DePaul at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The DePaul Blue Demons only trailed the Boston College Eagles for 33 seconds on Saturday afternoon at Wintrust Arena.

Unfortunately for DePaul, they were the final 33 seconds of the game as the Blue Demons suffered a 65-62 loss — their first at home this season.

Boston College went on a 15-7 run over the final five minutes of the game to pick up the victory, taking the lead for the first time after a pair of Wynston Tabbs free throws with 35 seconds to play. The free throws were particularly unsightly, considering DePaul had the ball with a one point lead with 44 seconds to go, but Eli Cain turned the ball over leading to a Boston College fast break and a foul

The same problems continue to persist for a Blue Demons team that should be 10-1 with wins over Northwestern and Boston College heading into Big East play, but instead turn the corner at 8-3.

Max Strus played well, recording 16 points in the win. Paul Reed grabbed 11 rebounds.

Boston College’s Nik Popovic led all scorers with 19 points.

DePaul will return to action Saturday when they open conference play against Xavier.
