All-time: DePaul and Chicago State have played each other a grand total of fifteen times dating back to 1992-93 season. The Blue Demons have won all 15 games against the Cougars, usually in blowout fashion.
Last game for DePaul did not go exactly as planned. The Blue Demons played Northwestern over the weekend to kick off a stretch of games against Chicago-area opposition. Everything was going well for the Blue Demons and were looking to a win with a 15 point lead then suddenly everything stopped. Over the last ten minutes of play, the Wildcats surged ahead and wiped away that 15 point deficit to get the win and leave a bad taste in the mouth of DePaul.
With that game in the rear view mirror, DePaul now turn their attention to midweek events as the Blue Demons play host to the Chicago State Cougars. Playing the Cougars could not come at a better time for the Blue Demons, especially in hoping to rebound with a win after what took place over the weekend. This is not meant to dismiss Chicago State but they are not exactly a team that is going to light up things and so far this season have been among the worst programs in Division I
At the moment the Cougars are sitting on a record of 3-8 this season, with wins coming against a recreation team from East-West University in Chicago, Eastern Illinois, and Trinity Christian who play in the NAIA. Among those wins only Eastern Illinois who play in the Ohio Valley Conference was a Division I opponent. In their games so far this season they have scored an average of 67.9 points per game while surrendering 84.5 points per game to opponents.
In all this should be a relatively easy game for DePaul who can use this as a nice rebound before playing UIC later this week. History is on their side in this game too. As mentioned up above, DePaul has never lost a game to Chicago State over the fifteen times that they have played each other. Over those fifteen games, DePaul have averaged 91.6 pointer per game while the Cougars have averaged 67.5 per game and the average margin of defeat has been an average of 24.1 points. In all, this might be one of college basketball’s most lopsided match-up.
It will be interesting to see how Dave Leitao sets up his team this game and if he rotates a bit more to give some guys more playing time. Also will be interesting to see what Max Strus and Eli Cain do this game and if they ball out.
In all and given the history of this match up all signs point to DePaul.
