WAGNER VS. SETON HALL
HOW TO WATCH
Time: Tuesday, November 6, 6:30 p.m. ET
TV: FS2 (Dave Sims, Jim Spanarkel)
Watch Online: Fox Sports Go
The Seton Hall Pirates welcome the Wagner Seahawks to Walsh Gym on Tuesday night to open the 2018-19 college basketball season.
For the first opening night since 2014-15, Angel Delgado, Desi Rodriguez, Khadeen Carrington, or Ismael Sanogo are not in the lineup for the Pirates.
A lot has been written throughout the offseason about how Seton Hall will overcome the departure of these four players. Head coach Kevin Willard has that on his mind, but noted at Big East Media Day that the team was “a little bit more athletic, a little bit more hot to shoot,” this year. Led by sharpshooter Myles Powell, the Pirates will debut that new look against their NEC foes.
The Seahawks went 23-10 last season, but lost two of their three leading scorers Blake Francis (17.3 PPG, transfer) and JoJo Cooper (14.3 PPG, graduation) and have a new look of their own coming into this season. However, Romone Saunders returns for his senior season, having averaged 14.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season. He will be an interesting matchup for the Pirates, as he’s just 6’3. If they can keep Saunders off the glass, and there’s no reason to believe they can’t, Seton Hall will likely win this game with ease.
It will be interesting to watch how Taurean Thompson is used. The Syracuse transfer was held out of Seton Hall’s scrimmage against Boston College with chest pain, but was sent to a doctor and cleared to play in Tuesday’s opener.
