The Friars return to action after nearly a week off

NCAA Basketball: Wichita State at Providence Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Providence Friars (3-2) have had nearly a week off after their loss to Michigan in last Sunday’s Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament. Will the long layoff affect the Friars, or will the rest do them good as they prepare to play host to the MAAC’s Iona Gaels (2-2)?

Stream: Fox Sports Go (Where available)

The Friars return home after a long layoff and look poised and ready to roll against the Gaels. Iona is 2-2 this season with wins over Albany and Hartford and losses to New Mexico and Long Beach State.

The Gaels are led by forward EJ Crawford’s 16 points a game. As a team, they’re alarmingly poor at three-point defense, surrendering threes at a 42.2% clip this season. The national average is 33.7%. This is something that the Friars, particularly AJ Reeves and Alpha Diallo, can look to exploit offensively.
