Villanova and Oklahoma State are now meeting in the second round of the 2018 Advocare Invitational Tournament.
In defeating Canisius 83-56 yesterday, Villanova unleashed itself from its two-game losing streak. Hyper-emphasizing defense and rebounding, particularly when compared to the Wildcats’ previous efforts so far this season, ‘Nova in fact doubled Canisius’ total rebounds.
The Advocare Invitational has also given a shining spotlight to the younger members of coach Jay Wright’s squad. In his starting debut against Canisius, freshman Saddiq Bey dropped 11 points, and fellow-newcomer Cole Swider also hit an 11-point game. Sophomore Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree had a career-breakout game, earning a double-double by halftime, and ending with 15 points and 13 rebounds. All signs point to the younger Wildcats repeating that same impact today.
On the other side, Oklahoma State defeated Memphis 84-64 yesterday. Offensive efforts were lead by Thomas Dziagwa’s 14 points, followed by Michael Weathers’ 13 points. In fact, six Oklahoma State players managed to post up double-digit points on the scoreboard. Cameron McGriff also topped OSU’s rebounding, with 12 rebounds and 11 points. Oklahoma State ended the game with 57% from the field, and look for OSU to continue that smart shooting against the Wildcats.
