After two wins to begin the season, the Marquette Golden Eagles suffered their first loss in the Gavitt Games. Against a quality opponent in the Indiana Hoosiers, the Golden Eagles were smoked by Romeo Langford and Co. in a 96-73 loss.
The Hoosiers raced out to a 47-34 lead at the half and never looked back. Marquette’s loss now sets them at 2-1 on the season. It was a tough pill to swallow for a ranked Marquette team. A 23-point loss is a hard one to bounce back from, but luckily for them they will be playing a much easier opponent than Indiana.
The Presbyterian Blue Hose will be the opponent walking into Marquette’s home this afternoon. After a 85-73 loss to Charleston, they have won three straight games with their most recent game being a 102-49 blowout win against the Boyce Bulldogs. Their offense has picked up during the winning streak, as they have scored 100+ points in the past two games.
A win against a program like Marquette would be huge and in a competitive Big South, they need all the victories they can get. There are currently a trio of teams with three or more wins in the conference so Presbyterian has their work cut out for them. But it will be a tall task against a team which is looking to bounce back after a bad performance.

Last Time They Met
It was a blowout win for the Golden Eagles the last time these two programs met in a 84-66 win in 2015. Marquette is on a three game winning streak in this series all time.
3 Things to Watch
Better 3-point shooting from Markus Howard
Although he scored 18 points, it was a rough shooting night for star man Markus Howard. He went 1 of 5 from three-point land. We have seen in the past that when Howard is hitting from three, he is a really dangerous threat. He was like that against Bethune-Cookman. Howard went 7 of 10 from three in a 37-point effort. He has a really good opportunity to get back on track shooting wise against Presbyterian. Maybe it can spark a good run of form for him.
Zoning in on Francois Lewis
The leading scorer for the Blue Hose has been Fracois Lewis. He is currently averaging 17.3 points per game on 48.8% shooting while also averaging 4.3 rebounds as well. Lewis had a tough game against Boyce but only played 15 minutes as the game as over quickly. However in the first two games where he played more minutes, The senior has stepped up big so far and will need another monster effort in order to keep this game competitive.
Confidence booster
After the loss to Indiana, it really put a damper on the confidence of the Golden Eagles. Especially with it being a blowout loss on the road. A win is exactly what Marquette needs to get back on track.
