DePaul improves to 2-0 with win over Morgan State

The Blue Demons are 2-0 for the first time since 2014!

For the second straight game, the DePaul Blue Demons took the court against an inferior opponent and cruised to a victory.

In last Wednesday’s season opener, DePaul took Bethune Cookman to task. Monday night at Wintrust Arena, the Blue Demons rolled to a 91-63 victory over the Morgan State Bears.

The game was never in doubt. DePaul held a 20-7 lead at the midway point of the first half, and continued to build their lead from there. Max Strus led the way with 25 points, his second straight 25 point performance. As noted in the recap after the season opener, Strus will need to continue to be efficient and consistent from the field if DePaul wants to be successful this year. He went 9-15 in Monday’s victory. Five of the nine makes were threes.

Strus also tied with Jaylen Butz for the team lead in rebounds with nine. He played very well on both ends of the court.

After a rough performance in the season opener, Eli Cain bounced back nicely with 21 points on 7-14 shooting. Like Strus, he had five threes. He also had eight rebounds and six assists. Cain is the longest-tenured Blue Demon on the roster, so it’s only natural for him to be looked at as a leader of sorts. As such, he needs to string together performances like this as often as possible.

Devin Gage also played very well, recording 13 points and nine assists. The positives vastly outweighed the negatives for a Blue Demons team that will look to improve to 3-0 Thursday night when Penn State comes to Wintrust Arena.

Martez Cameron led Morgan State with 11 points.
