Baker Dunleavy returned to the Finneran Pavilion for the first time as the head coach of the Quinnipiac Bobcats after seven years on Jay Wright’s Villanova Wildcats coaching staff. Student was facing off with teacher. Would the game be close?
No. As it turns out, it wouldn’t in the slightest. The Wildcats cruised to an 86-53 victory, as they are wont to do. The game was never particularly close, as Villanova had a 28-7 lead at the U8 media timeout in the first half, and a 47-20 lead going into the locker room for halftime.
The second half was more of the same, clearly. The Wildcats are one of the best teams in the nation. The Bobcats are not. It’s hard to find too much to take away from this game.
Phil Booth had a career-high 23 points, which is a very good sign for Villanova going forward, as it’s his team now. Collin Gillespie hit four threes en route to a 16 point outburst, and Eric Paschall hauled in a team-high eight rebounds.
The Wildcats will host Michigan on Wednesday evening in a rematch of the 2018 National Title Game.
