The new AP Poll is out, and the Villanova Wildcats are back on top!
Thanks largely to the fact that VIllanova, unlike the majority of teams in the poll, did not lose this week, the Wildcats are #1 for the second time this year. They took care of business in their lone game of the week, picking up a 100-90 victory over Marquette.
After taking down Butler to start the week, the Xavier Musketeers were in prime position to jump up to a school-record #4 (or higher) in the AP Poll had they been able to beat the Providence Friars. Unfortunately, Providence pulled off the upset and Xavier fell all the way down to 10. The Musketeers have a chance to redeem themselves though as they face #1 Villanova on Wednesday night.
One of the week’s biggest jumps comes from the Seton Hall Pirates, who are up to #13 after a 2-0 week. The current Big East leaders jumped eight spots for their highest ranking since they got up to #7 in 2000-01.
Rounding out the Big East’s presence in the polls are the Creighton Bluejays, who just skate in at #25. Creighton is 3-1 in Big East play. They’ll be tested this week against Butler and Xavier.
