Seton Hall knocks off Providence in Newark

This one got out of hand in a hurry.

NCAA Basketball: Providence at Seton Hall Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

As the Seton Hall Pirates and Providence Friars squared off for a battle for sole possession of fourth place in the Big East, the early stages of the game made it seem like it was going to be a fun back and forth tilt.

The first 12 minutes saw the teams trade buckets, but then Seton Hall pulled away as a 19-0 run midway through the first half turned a 19-17 Providence into a 36-19 Seton Hall lead, a lead which the Pirates never relinquished, cruising to a 73-57 victory

Khadeen Carrington had an exceptional outing for Seton Hall, scoring 23 points on 9-14 shooting, Desi Rodriguez had 16, and Angel Delgado notched, his 66th career double-double with a 13-point, 14-rebound effort.

Aside from Alpha Diallo’s career-high 25 points (to go along with a team-high 10 rebounds, his second double-double in three games), things were ugly for the Friars. Kyron Cartwright finished the night 0-9 from the field with two assists and four turnovers. Jalen Lindsey missed all four of his shots, and Rodney Bullock was held to just ten points. Providence shot just 11.8% on three-point attempts, going 2-17 from long range. After rattling off four straight wins, Providence has now lost back-to-back games.

Seton Hall improves to 17-5 (6-3) on the season. They’ll travel to Philadelphia to face Villanova on Sunday. Providence falls to 14-8 (5-4). They’ll head to Milwaukee to face Marquette on Saturday.
