The Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List was published on Monday. Four Big East Conference stars were named to the list, including the frontrunner for the conference’s Player of the Year award.
That of course is Jalen Brunson. The Villanova Wildcats superstar has been prolifically efficient this season, and for his efforts, he’s up for the USBWA’s top honor this season. Brunson is averaging 19.0 points and 5.2 assists per game while shooting an absurd 57.7 percent from the field. Brunson is also shooting 48.5 percent from 3-point land, one of the best marks in the conference and the nation.
He’s not the only Wildcat to be named to the list, either. The deft Mikal Bridges is also featured on the list, and it’s no surprise to see him on it. Bridges has been outstanding in his junior year, playing extremely well on both ends of the floor.
Villanova is one of three Big East teams to have a nominee for the award. The Seton Hall Pirates and Xavier Musketeers also have their stars on the list. Trevon Bluiett is Xavier’s nominee on the list. Bluiett has been terrific, averaging 19.1 points this season while shooting 45.8 percent from the field.
Angel Delgado, meanwhile, is the Pirates’ nominee. Delgado and his double-double average of 13.4 points and 11.7 rebounds per game has brought him national recognition, and as such, he finds himself vying for the coveted honor.
