2018 NCAA Tournament Day 4 Recap

A few titans fall....

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Second Round-Xavier vs Florida State Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Bitter pills were swallowed on Sunday. Here’s a recap of what went down.

  • A multitude of high seeds were toppled. The North Carolina Tar Heels, Cincinnati Bearcats, Michigan State Spartans and -- yes -- the Xavier Musketeers all ate losses on Sunday. UNC was stomped by the Texas A&M Aggies. Cincy blew a 22-point lead to the Nevada Wolf Pack. Sparty lost an ugly game to the Syracuse Orange. And, well, Xavier collapsed down the stretch and coughed up a lead to the Florida State Seminoles. All of it was bad.
  • Not all high seeds were prone to losses, though. The Purdue Boilermakers and West Virginia Mountaineers clinched spots in the Sweet 16. Purdue defeated the Butler Bulldogs 76-73 in Detroit, while West Virginia bowled through the Marshall Thundering Herd, 94-71. WVU weill play the Villanova Wildcats in the Sweet 16, while Purdue faces the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The East Region is stacked, y’all.
  • The Clemson Tigers held a 40-point lead at one point and defeated the Auburn Tigers, 84-53. It wasn’t exactly the showing Auburn wanted at all, but one they’ll have to nowlive with.
  • UMBC’s run came to a bitter end, as the 16-seeded Retrievers lost 50-43 to the Kansas State Wildcats. They’re still all good dogs.
