As the Xavier Musketeers look to continue to solidify their presence on the right side of the bubble, the Butler Bulldogs look to pick up their first Big East Tournament victory in school history.
Xavier, who took care of business against DePaul in the Tournament’s opening round Wednesday night, currently appears on 113 of 117 brackets on BracketMatrix, with an average seed of 10.72. While the Musketeers will likely find themselves in the NCAA Tournament a victory against Butler almost assures they won’t be in the First Four In and have to play in Dayton, while a loss may make them sweat a bit until Selection Sunday.
Butler, on the other hand, should be very well-rested, as they haven’t played since last Saturday’s loss to Seton Hall. The Bulldogs have been snakebit when it has come to the Big East Tournament, with losses to Seton Hall, Xavier, and Provdiecne over the past three seasons. While it hasn’t had an adverse effect on Butler’s NCAA Tournament performance in the past two seasons, Butler would like to pick up a victory just to shed the 0-fer.
The winner of this game will move on to face the winner of Thursday evening’s Creighton/Providence game in Friday night’s semifinal.
