The Butler Bulldogs easily handled the Winthrop Eagles on Thursday afternoon, cruising to a 76-64 victory in Milwaukee.
Thank goodness honestly. I would have had a heart attack.
The Bulldogs never trailed in the game, and led by as many as 19 points. Winthrop was able to bring the game to single digits early in the second half after a 14-7 run, but Butler responded with a 14-2 run of their own.
I really don’t know what else to say. It was a pretty boring and straightforward game. But how about that Notre Dame/Princeton finish? I was ready for an upset because I’m so indifferent about the ACC.
Anyway, Winthrop was led by Xavier Cooks in scoring with 23 points. Cooks also chipped in six rebounds. The Eagles leading scorer in season, Keon Johnson, ended the day with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Butler had a very balanced scoring attack, with eight players contributing five or more points. Six Bulldogs also had at least four rebounds in the game.
Avery Woodson led the team in scoring with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. Kelan Martin also added 10 points of his own and led the team in rebounding with eight. Tyler Lewis led the team in assists with eight and also chipped in nine points.
Y’all have no idea how much I do not want the Dawgs to play Middle Tennessee. But it looks like they will be. I’m so nervous.
