We’re gonna keep this short and sweet. The past two times they’ve met in the Big East Tournament, Seton Hall has defeated Villanova. You know it, I know it, Jay Wright and Kevin Willard know it. It’s hard to beat a team three times in a season, as the old adage goes.
With those two narratives out of the way, let’s get down to business. The Seton Hall Pirates are one of the Big East’s hottest teams right now. The Pirates fell to Villanova on February 18 at the Prudential Center and haven’t lost a game since. Angel Delgado has somehow managed to take his game to an even higher level than he’s been at all season, coming one assist shy from the second triple-double in Big East Tournament history in Seton Hall’s win over Marquette on Thursday afternoon.
On the flip side, Jay Wright’s Wildcats played a nearly-perfect game in their opener against St. John’s on Thursday afternoon, picking up a 108-67 victory. Donte DiVincenzo had to fill in for Mikal Bridges who had the stomach flu, and DiVincenzo responded with a career-high 25 points. Five other ‘Nova players joined DiVincenzo in double-figures. If the Wildcats can play like that consistently, there isn’t a team in the country, let alone the Big East, who can stop them.
Big East Tournament semifinal day is one of the best days of the season. Friday night should be no different.
