Last week, Fanrag Sports’ Jon Rothstein noted that the UConn Huskies were looking into joining a new conference this offseason.
On Wednesday afternoon, Rothstein had another report. This time saying UConn and the Big East have had “recent discussions” regarding a return.
As Rothstein notes, UConn’s football team appears to be the only remaining hurdle.
“The Big East would take UConn in everything, but they need to resolve what they’re going to do with football,” one source said. “That’s the only thing that’s standing in the way of a marriage.”
The Big East would also likely be willing to add two more conference games to keep the double round-robin.
There’s a lot to digest in this report, but if UConn is able to find a home for their football team, a reunion with the Big East seems incredibly beneficial for both sides.
