Per usual, the Big East handed out its weekly awards on Monday morning. As is often the case at this point in the season, both awards are going to already-multiple time winners, as Villanova Wildcats forward Josh Hart was named Player of the Week while St. John’s Red Storm guard Marcus LoVett won his second straight Freshman of the Week award.
Hart, a senior, continues to rack up his accolades this season, as this is the fourth Big East Player of the Week award for the Naismith Award contender. Hart had a game-high 25 points in ‘Nova’s win over Georgetown and did a little bit of everything in the Wildcats’ victory over Xavier on Saturday, scoring 11 points, grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out five assists, and swiping four steals.
LoVett, meanwhile, had 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists in St. John’s lone game of the week, a 76-70 victory over Seton Hall. He leads all Big East freshmen in scoring at 17.3 points per game this season.
