For the first time since December 2015, the DePaul Blue Demons are on a four-game win streak!

The Blue Demons knocked off the crosstown UIC Flames 65-55, Saturday afternoon at UIC Pavilion.

DePaul was led by 24 points from Max Strus, as the D2 transfer is starting to find his place at this level after a rough start to the season. Strus has led the Blue Demons in scoring in each of the four games, and appears to be the scoring option to complement Eli Cain that the Blue Demons have desperately needed.

Speaking of Cain, he had a career-high eight assists in the victory. DePaul’s point guard situation was thrown into a bit of a flux with the news that Devin Gage tore his Achilles and would miss the rest of the year, so for Cain to come out and deliver a performance like that certainly bodes well for the Blue Demons going forward.

Gage’s injury wasn’t the only bad news for DePaul on Saturday. Northern Illinois transfer Marin Maric left the game in the first half, and didn’t return.

Paul Steeno notes that he Marin to the bench, but not to the game.

With DePaul having another game in just two days, Maric’s status will be something to monitor.

Defensively, the Blue Demons were excellent. UIC shot just 30.6% from the field and had just one scorer in double-digits: Dominique Matthews, who had 13 points.

The Blue Demons (5-4) have a short turnaround before welcoming Alabama A&M to Wintrust Arena Monday evening.
