Odds & Ends
Creighton is favored by 19.5 points according to Odds Shark. KenPom predicts a score of 94-74, with the Jays holding a 97% chance to win.
If you’d like to bet on this game I’d like it if you didn’t because putting money down on a sport where the athlete makes zero dollars is morally bankrupt, a lot like buying stocks in weapons manufacturers or buying a loaf of bread and feeding a bunch of pigeons.
Series History
Creighton and UND have played 12 times in their history, with the Jays owning a 9-3 record. The last time they met was on December 12th, 1975, where Creighton lost 69-64 in Grand Forks.
The first ever meeting came on February 12th, 1923, where North Dakota ambled down to Omaha to steal a win 23-18. Creighton and UND played games on back-to-back days in 1925 & 1926, the last game in the 4-game series ending in a loss for the Jays by the score of 20-19. Nailbiter.
Other than that, the Jays won every other game. They even blew the doors off the team currently known as the “Fighting Hawks,” in 1962, winning 90-54.
Verba de Ludis
Coming off the heels of an epic second half shellacking from Gonzaga, the Jays are in a nice position to lock in a win before their big showdown against in-state rival Nebraska on Saturday.
They wecome the Fighting Hawks of North Dakota, a team thats wholly and completely unspectacular aside from their star guard Marlon Stewart. Marlon spent a year with the Jays, in Milliken’s final season and Watson’s inaugural year. He was part of the same team that won the "Men Who Speak Up Tournament," and has become a formidable part of the North Dakota squad.
This is a game that Creighton should win - a game that Creighton will win - so sit back, flip on Fox Sports 2, and watch the Jays blow the Hawks out of the water.
This will be a game where we’ll see Jordan Scurry face off against Stewart. A game where, if healthy, Kaleb Joseph will get lots of minutes so coaches can see him in live action play.
Most importantly, perhaps, this is a game where ‘Mad Dog’ Manny Suarez logs a bunch of minutes after being left out of the tilt against Gonzaga. Lord only knows that we need more Mad Dog always, forever and ever until we’re consumed by celestial gas giants.
