The Marquette Golden Eagles took care of the American Eagles on Thursday evening, picking up a 92-51 victory over their Patriot League foes and wrapping up nonconference play at 9-3.
Sam Hauser led the Golden Eagles with 29 points on 8-10 shooting, and was 7-9 from beyond the three-point line. Hauser’s performance makes him the early favorite for Big East Player of the Week, as he was just one point shy of his career (and season) high of 30 points. He would have surpassed the 30-point mark had he not sat the final eight minutes of the game.
Elsewhere, Andrew Rowsey looked excellent in a 19-point effort. It was especially important for Rowsey to come out strong because it looked like he may have possibly had some sort of injury Monday night.
The Golden Eagles continue to shoot a ton of threes, going 14-28 from long range in the win. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Larry Motuzis led American with 12 points.
Marquette will be out of action until December 27, when they open Big East play against Xavier.
