How successful has Butler’s pre-conference season been? Well, that depends on your expectations. Sure, Butler has lost to three of the five legitimate programs it has played. But in a year where the Bulldogs are recovering from the loss of three starters and essentially an entire coaching staff, maybe that isn’t so bad. One thing the Bulldogs have avoided is the catastrophic loss.
Butler certainly has an opportunity for the catastrophic loss on Tuesday night. Morehead State comes into Hinkle Fieldhouse on Tuesday with a 4-6 record. For those wondering how Morehead State would compete in a major conference, know this: the Eagles lost to Xavier by 52 and to Virginia Tech by 33.
But maybe the venue will be friendly to Morehead State? Butler is 6-0 at Home Sweet Hinkle, and Morehead State is 0-6 away from home. Yikes. Fans of the “little guy” will likely be disappointed by the Butler-Morehead State match-up.
Butler players should bear down in practice this week, because its games against Morehead State and Western Illinois are unlikely to prepare the Bulldogs for looming Big East challengers Georgetown and Villanova. At the very least, maybe Kamar Baldwin can get his jump shot going again before conference play.
