Following an eventful week in the Big East Conference, Seton Hall Pirates forward Desi Rodriguez and Creighton Bluejays center Justin Patton are the recipients of the conference’s Player and Freshman of the Week awards.
It’s the first honor for Rodriguez this season and the first for Seton Hall since Myles Powell won Freshman of the Week back on November 21. The junior from The Bronx was certainly deserving of the accolade after scoring 25 points in the Pirates’ victory over DePaul. Desi did so while shooting 10-for-13 from the field and an especially prodigious 5-for-7 from the 3-point line. The 25 points he scored matched a season high he set back on November 17 in a win over Iowa.
It remains business as usual for Patton, as the Creighton big man earns his third Freshman of the Week honor of the season and first since December 5. Patton dropped an average of 22.5 points in the Bluejays’ two road victories over the St. John’s Red Storm and Providence Friars this past week. The Omaha native did so while shooting a combined 20-for-27 from the field and the 25 points he scored in the win over the Red Storm was a season high.
