How to watch DePaul vs. Seton Hall: Game time, TV schedule, odds and more

Can Seton Hall get their 8th win in 9 games or will DePaul play spoiler in Newark?

NCAA Basketball: Marquette at Seton Hall Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Despite playing well to open up Big East play, the DePaul Blue Demons without wins after their first two efforts. They gave Villanova a scare last week, taking the lead and pushing the Wildcats till the final buzzer but fell short. Then in their home opener, they blitzed the St. John’s Red Storm in the first half but fell victim to a quiet second half where they allowed the Johnnies to catch fire from deep. A loss could put the Blue Demons at the bottom of the standings, moving them under the 0-3 Georgetown Hoyas.

To say it is a must win is kind of an understatement.

The start to conference play for the Seton Hall Pirates began the same way as DePaul’s: A loss to one of the best teams in the conference. This game wasn’t exactly close, however. Against the Creighton Bluejays, the Pirates were taken down by one of the top teams in the country and gave up a 50-point first half. It was all downhill from there as Creighton beat Seton Hall by double digits.

The Pirates bounced back by essentially stealing a game against the Marquette Golden Eagles. Much of it was due to Khadeen Carrington who scored five points in the final minutes. Thanks to Carrington’s heroics, they were able to walk out with a 69-66 win. Now 1-1 in conference play, Seton Hall will be looking to get over the .500 mark.

Series History

In the 18 matchups these two teams have played previously, Seton Hall holds the all-time series lead 12-6. The Pirates are currently on a two game winning streak in this series, capped off in their most recent win against 80-66 win over DePaul last year.

Three Things to Watch

Pirates on the glass

Seton Hall has one of the top rebounding squads in the country. They average 39.9 rebounds per game, which coincidentally is good enough for 39th in the country. Angel Delgado leads the way for SHU with 11.6 rebounds per game while Ismael Sanogo is second on the team with 7.3, mostly relying on those two to man the glass. DePaul will have to certainly make a very consistent effort in this game to make sure that Seton Hall doesn’t wipe them off the boards cleanly, especially considering the Blue Demons’ lack of depth at the spot behind Joe Hanel.

Balanced scoring attack for SHU

Seton Hall has a very balanced offensive game, with four players averaging over double figures in points per game. Led by Carrington, Seton Hall is very efficient offensively, ranking in the top 100 in Adj. Offensive Efficiency according to KenPom.com. Against a DePaul that gives up 76 points per game, The Hall could have a field day finding good shots on the floor.

Not much ball movement

Despite Seton Hall’s impressive offensive scoring, they only average 11.4 assists per game, ranking them 313th in the country. The same can be said about DePaul, who only averages 11.7. So expect a lot of isolation ball from both teams as Carrington looks to lead the Pirates, while Eli Cain will try to will the Blue Demons to their first conference victory of the season.
