Trevon Bluiett and Shamorie Ponds have won the Big East Player and Freshman of the Week awards.
The Xavier junior and St. John’s freshman were both honored by the Big East Conference on Monday afternoon.
Bluiett averaged 30.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in Xavier’s two games this week, including a career-high 40 point showing in the Musketeers’ loss to Cincinnati. Bluiett was 13-15 from the field and tied an Xavier record with nine three-pointers. He recorded a double-double on Sunday evening in Xavier’s win over St. John’s, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. It was his second double-double of the season and seventh of his career.
Ponds, meanwhile, averaged 22.5 points in St. John’s two games this week. His 22 points were paramount in St. John’s road win against Providence. Ponds also led the Red Storm with 23 points in the team’s loss to Xavier, and went 19-21 from the free throw line in the two contests.
