Jalen Brunson and Shamorie Ponds have won the Big East Player and Freshman of the Week awards.

The Villanova sophomore and St. John’s freshman were both honored by the Big East Conference on Monday afternoon.

This is Brunson’s first Player of the Week of the season, while Ponds has now been named the Freshman of the Week thrice, including back-to-back weeks.

Brunson was pivotal for Villanova in both of their victories this week, registering 13 points, six assists, and four rebounds against DePaul, then recording a career-high 27 points against #10 Creighton.

Ponds, meanwhile, is living up to his Preseason Big East Freshman of the Year moniker. He led St. John’s with 28 points in their upset win over #13 Butler, and chipped in 15 points against DePaul to bring the Red Storm to 2-0 in conference play.
