As reported by Jon Rothstein of FanRag Sports, the Villanova Wildcats have scheduled a home-and-home series with the UConn Huskies.
These former conference foes will revitalize their rivalry next season, as the Wildcats are slated to visit Connecticut. UConn will travel to Philadelphia for a return game during the 2018-19 season.
Venues and dates will be disclosed at a later time.
Connecticut and Villanova have played a total of 64 times, the Wildcats holding a slim 33-31 lead pertaining to the all-time series. These two last played back in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, where the Huskies upended ‘Nova en route to their fourth national championship.
Since transitioning to the American Athletic Conference, Connecticut has made a point scheduling old Big East opponents. The Huskies have already played Syracuse in Atlantis and at Madison Square Garden. UConn is also expected to play Syracuse next season in the Jimmy V Classic. In addition, Kevin Ollie’s team just recently finished a series with Georgetown.
The same could be said for Villanova, who has faced Syracuse twice in the regular season since the Orange fled for the ACC. The Wildcats also faced former Big East foe Notre Dame in a neutral site game in Newark earlier this season as well.
UConn has been a major disappointment this season, but will return and add numerous pieces next year. They should provide Villanova sturdy competition and a resume building opportunity.
