Georgetown Hoyas forward L.J. Peak and Marquette Golden Eagles point guard Markus Howard were named Big East Player and Freshman of the Week by the conference on Monday.
Peak and Howard both enjoyed tremendous success last week as they each went 2-0 in their two respective games. Peak was stellar in wins over St. John’s and UConn as the junior forward scored a combined 37 points and grabbed 11 boards, tallied six assists with a steal to boot. The Gaffney, South Carolina native shot 10-for-22 from the field in the games against the Red Storm and Huskies, shooting 7-for-15 in the win over UConn. He was especially great from the free throw line, going 15-for-15 in the two victories.
Howard meanwhile continues to perform extraordinarily well for a 17-year old. In Marquette’s two victories last week over Seton Hall and DePaul, the Chandler, Arizona native scored a combined 31 points including 22 in the win over the Pirates. He maintained his hot shooting from the 3-point line, converting on 50 percent of the 10 total attempts he took from deep and shot 12-for-24 in general from the field. He also tallied seven assists, six coming in the game against Seton Hall, four boards and two steals and just three turnovers in 56 minutes.
