Odds and Ends

Butler opens as 7.5 point favorites according to OddsShark. The over/under opened at 153.5.

What to Watch For

  • Can Marquette’s high-octane offense run with a better defense? DePaul’s defense is not as highly touted as Butler’s, and Butler in general poses better matchups at every position. Marquette blew by DePaul with their three point shooting on Saturday in Milwaukee, but will they be able to replicate it? Will Andrew Rowsey still be on fire from three?
  • Butler owns arguably the best schedule in terms of quality wins and strength in the Big East, including being the only team in the nation to beat Villanova so far. But they’ve also lost to St. John’s and Indiana State. They can get up and play on the big stage against marquee opponents, but have struggled in (and lost) some games that they had no business losing. What do they consider Marquette and how will their play be affected?
  • Kelan Martin came off the bench instead of starting for Butler. Will he be coming off the bench this time or has he earned his spot in the starting lineup back?

Prediction from the Gut

Marquette’s looked good but inconsistent. They can run in a shootout, but if they play a defensive battle, they’re going to struggle. As a Marquette fan, I’ll take Butler by eight, 80-72.
