That was all very unideal.

The Big East’s rough outing in the Gavitt Games continues.

The Maryland Terrapins welcomed the Butler Bulldogs to College Park on Wednesday night. In turn, the Terps didn’t exactly give them a warm greeting. Quite the opposite, in fact. Thanks to a prodigious showing from the field, the Terrapins celebrated a 79-65 win to give the Big Ten a 3-1 lead.

Maryland held Butler to just 34.3 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from the 3-point line. On the bright side, Butler made all of their free throws. But those 11 made gimmes didn’t mater in the end.

Anthony Cowan Jr. led the way for the Terps with 25 points. Darryl Morsell and Dion Wiley joined him in double figures with 13 and 11.

For Butler, Sean McDermott starred with 17 points while shooting 5-12. Preseason All-Big East First Team selection Kelan Martin had 12 points, but had an off night, shooting 5-15. Kamar Baldwin had 15 points, and he too was off, going 6-21. Baldwin would foul out towards the end of the game, with a night to forget to say the least.

We’ll be back with some takeaways.
