St. John’s set to run a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader in January 2017 at Madison Square Garden

So, here’s some cool news.

The St. John’s Red Storm have long called Madison Square Garden home. The World’s Most Famous Arena is synonymous with the Red Storm and Big East basketball as well as it’s been the venue for the Big East men’s basketball tournament since 1983.

The Johnnies will play at MSG again once the 2016-17 campaign gets underway. And on Wednesday, a special announcement was made about games that are scheduled for that aforementioned season. Not only regarding men’s basketball but women’s basketball as well.

On January 29, 2017, the Red Storm men’s and women’s basketball teams will be playing regular season contests at The Garden.

The Red Storm’s opponent for both the men’s and women’s contests, as the above tweet indicates, is the Xavier Musketeers. The release from the Johnnies indicates that this will be the 14th time in history that the St. John’s women’s basketball team will play inside MSG.
