For the first time in school history, the Xavier Musketeers are headed to a regional final in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.
Following a 5-4 loss to UCSB Sunday afternoon, the X-Men were faced with a win or go home situation against the Washington Huskies Sunday evening. The Musketeers scored the game's first seven runs en route to a 7-5 victory over the Huskies.
Rylan Bannon set the tone for Xavier, hitting a leadoff home run on the fourth pitch of the game, and driving in two more runs with a second inning double. Big East Player of the Year Andre Jernigan also homered in the first inning.
The Musketeers will now face a tough task if they want to advance to the super regional. Given the double-elimination nature of the tournament, Xavier will have to defeat UCSB twice on Monday. Game one will be played at 3 p.m. ET. Game two, if necessary, is TBA.
For now, Xavier can rest easy.
