Big East weekly awards: Kris Dunn, Trevon Bluiett earn recognition

For the second straight week, a Providence player takes home Big East Player of the Week. Plus the weekly honor roll, and more!

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

For the second straight week, a Providence Friar will take home Big East Player of the Week honors. Where last week it was LaDontae Henton, this week, it was Friar point guard Kris Dunn.

Of course, it would have been an upset if Dunn didn't win the award this week. In Providence's two games this week, Dunn averaged 25 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and shot 64% from the first. Dunn also recorded the conference's 14th triple-double ever in Providence's win over DePaul on Thursday afternoon. Dunn had 27 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists in that contest.

Meanwhile, Trevon Bluiett continues to make his case for Big East Freshman of the Year. In Xavier's two games this week, Bluiett averaged 15 points and 3.5 rebounds. Both games were on the road, so Bluiett is certainly not one to let the pressure get to him. He is averaging 12.5 points per game this year, most among Big East freshmen.

As always, the Big East also recognized these five players in the Weekly Honor Roll (alphabetical order)

Andrew Chrabascz, Butler, F, So.

Myles Davis, Xavier, G, So.

Sterling Gibbs, Seton Hall, G, Jr.

Sir'Dominic Pointer, St. John's, F, Sr.

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Georgetown, G, Jr.
