The Seton Hall Pirates defeated the Xavier Musketeers at "The Rock" by a score of 71-62 on Senior Night, a win that might have bursted Xavier’s chances at a spot in March Madness.

Seton Hall and Xavier played an evenly matched game in the first half, until Matt Stainbrook suffered a knee injury which sidelined him for the rest of the game. Subsequently, The Hall was able to run away with the game after Stainbrook’s injury.

Seton Hall swept Xavier in their season series, defeating them in Ohio and tonight in New Jersey.

Seton Hall played a great game against the Musketeers, out rebounding them 35 to 31 and sporting a 46.9 field goal percentage in the game. This mark was much better than Xavier’s 37.0 percent from the field. Seton Hall had a balanced offense with three players in Gene Teague, Brian Oliver and Fuquan Edwin scoring double figures. Semaj Christon had the most points in the game with 28 while Seton Hall’s Brian Oliver led all Seton Hall scorers with 20 points of his own.

Seton Hall played a great game on Senior Night and it was a great win for a team that has now won twice in their last seven games. Xavier was unable to capture victory because of Stainbrook’s early injury in the game. The big man is one of the leading scorers on the team and most importantly one of the best rebounders and big man on the team. It is a big blow for Xavier, a team that is currently on the bubble, to lose such a key player.

Looking forward, Seton Hall will go to Indy to face Butler on Friday. Xavier meanwhile will go back home to Ohio to play Villanova, a team coming off a great win against Marquette.
