Double Plane Crash Survivor Austin Hatch Hits Emotional First Point

If you're unfamiliar with the tragic yet triumphant tale of Michigan freshman Austin Hatch, let me bring you up to speed.

Just nine days after committing to play college ball for the Wolverines in 2011, Hatch was involved in a plane crash that killed his pilot father and stepmother. Eight years prior, he and his dad survived another plane crash that claimed the lives of his mother, brother and sister. Michigan coach John Beilein honored his scholarship, and in the closing seconds of last night's exhibition matchup with Wayne State, Hatch stepped to the free throw line and made his first college point. He will see very limited time on the court for the Wolverines in 2014-15, but Austin Hatch is already in the running for Play of the Year.
